Moments to remember

from the weekend:

being enthralled by the lovely sunshine all day Saturday.
my Saturday night being turned around by the arrival of my dear friend, R, who surprised me with treats for my birthday.

spending early Sunday morning catching up with one of my best friends. smiling like i hadn't in days. it had been too long.

enjoying a beautiful Sunday afternoon window shopping and getting a manicure w/ K.

realizing that I am poised at the beginning of a new year and that there are many great things on the horizon.

weekend chic - birthday edition

Elegant French manicures. Leisurely Sunday brunch with friends. Lovely dinner out. Being with family. Getting all dolled up in heels and a cocktail dress. Champagne in gorgeous flutes. But what would a birthday be without an amazing cake?

Let them eat cake! xoxo

things that define my week

birthdays - dressing up, celebrating, champagne, and a little glamour.

rain in June

change - in its many forms - and adaptation

tea - earl grey, sweet orange, vanilla rooibos

bold statements - language, jewelry, a colour, a choice

not always knowing exactly where you're going, but knowing where you want to be

french bistro kitchen

Lately I've been craving eclectic, vintage inspired spaces and have been trying to think of ways to update a few areas in my home starting with the kitchen. I have this very old wood dining room table with chairs that are about to fall apart. It's been in the family for years, but it's time for a change. I spotted some fabulous bistro tables at Country Furniture a couple weeks ago. This is the one I'm thinking about getting.

It's about half the size of my current table, but I think it's going to be a much better size for the scale of my apartment. Of course there is the ever pressing issue of a chair. I like the idea of something black and sleek.

Wood chairs are also nice. I love the bold, chunky tiles in this kitchen, too.

Does it get any better than this one?! Beautiful, soft colours. Especially those pale pink walls with gorgeous pattern. The long white table complete with glass jars of every size. Low hanging light fixtures. And, I love the white floors! Just fabulous.

For me, the charm of lovely french kitchens lies in the little details. Jars. Little knick knacks. Vintage cookbooks and literature. Touches of metallic and other bits of glamor. Mirrors. Things i look forward to in my redecorating adventures.

moving - it happens.

Life moves. People also move. This seems to be looming issue du jour. I suppose it is due in part to the fact that most of my friends are not Canadian and have not planned to stay in Canada forever. It's a fact that I know, but choose not to cope. Suddenly I am facing a more difficult moving dilemma. A is moving, which deeply saddens me. Although we have only been together a few short months, they have been divine. He is not sure when he'll be back and I have not plans to move back to California. What to do?

reunited at last

Friends are those rare individuals, with whom you can pick up where you left off at anytime. It is as if no time has passed. That void is repaired once they are present and life resumes in a more robust fashion.

weekend chic

Rejoice, it's the weekend! It's supposed to be nice here in Vancouver, and after a week of mostly rain, I am looking forward to it more than ever. My lovely friends have all returned to Vancouver after their grand adventures abroad and this weekend is a small celebration for all the good things that have happened. A dinner party filled with chic little details, large flowers and fresh foods.
I wish you all the best for a fabulous weekend.

I am by John Clare

{photo by vanessa}

I am: yet what I am none cares or knows,
My friends forsake me like a memory lost;
I am the self-consumer of my woes,
They rise and vanish in oblivious host,
Like shades in love and death's oblivion lost;
And yet I am! and live with shadows tost

Into the nothingness of scorn and noise,
Into the living sea of waking dreams,
Where there is neither sense of life nor joys,
But the vast shipwreck of my life's esteems;
And e'en the dearest--that I loved the best--
Are strange--nay, rather stranger than the rest.

I long for scenes where man has never trod;
A place where woman never smil'd or wept;
There to abide with my creator, God,
And sleep as I in childhood sweetly slept:
Untroubling and untroubled where I lie;
The grass below--above the vaulted sky.

it's a month of personal celebration. my birthday and first month as a graduate, out in the real world. dinner parties planned and friends returning to town. the first days of summer. long, light evenings spent outdoors. everything wild in full bloom. making plans for the rest of the summer. collecting shells on the beach. making time for loved ones and plans that have fallen by the wayside in the past few months. most of all, i hope this month has equally big plans for me.

finishing a novel and starting a new one
hosting a friends for dinner
trying a new dessert recipe
planning a weekend getaway for the late summer
finishing up a few projects - pillows, a quilt and a handbag for a friend
working hard and enjoying my few and small movements of peace and quiet
spending lots of time catching up with my family over the phone
